Starting production in 1983 the Ruf BTR was the first Ruf with it’s own vin. In 1984 it won Road & Track’s “World’s Fastest Cars” contest. In 1987 the same car now with 211,000 miles on the odometer competed in the same contest, only being beaten by the Koenig R/S, Porsche 959, and the Ruf CTR. around 30 units were produced. The rest were converted from costumer Porsche 911's. They were available in narrow body and Turbo widebody. After 1988 they became available with a 6 speed transmission. They were powered by a turbocharged flat six producing 374 bhp @6000 rpm and 350 lbf·ft @4800 rpm.
